Golden Gate Joseph E. Lockridge Scholarship Foundation celebrates 48 years of ministry in 2018. The Scholarship Foundation continues to uphold its Mission—“to provide financial assistance for college-bound students to pursue academic excellence.”

In 1969 theJoseph E. Lockridge Scholarship Foundation was established under the leadership of Mrs. Roetta Crayton and Mr. Robert White. The late Rev. CBT Smith, Pastor Emeritus, approved this tribute to honor the life and legacy of MR. JOSEPH EDWIN LOCKRIDGE—the man for which our LOCKRIDGE SCHOLARS are known:

Joseph E. Lockridge was born in Waco, TX He graduated from Lincoln High School, Dallas, TX, 1949 and received his Bachelor of Science degree from Southern University, Baton Rouge, LA. Joseph E. Lockridge received his JD from Howard University School of Law, Washington, D.C. In1960 He served and represented District 33, Dallas, in the Texas State House of Representatives. Joseph E. Lockridge was an active member of the Golden Gate Missionary Baptist Church Joseph E. Lockridge was killed in a tragic plane crash in May 1968.So, from 1969 to date, The JEL team members have been busy: The Foundation paid the first scholarship in 1970—Joan Jackson. 1970—2011 we selected 185 students as LOCKRIDGE SCHOLARS (our largest class of scholars was 2007, 14 students and awarded $31,000). Since June 1998, we have awarded $258,000 in scholarships. ( We do not have the figures prior to June 1998.)

In 2012 we honored five more students and awarded $10,000. We are currently in the process of selecting the scholars for 2014. JEL continues to select the finest scholars from each graduating class from our local area high schools.
